About
Who we are.
Half Square is a small developer workshop in Berlin. We do two kinds of work.
On one side, the local businesses and Mittelstand companies that should be getting digital tools but don't get the service that comes with them. A hair salon that needs a modern booking system. A practice whose phone rings between appointments. A mid-sized company whose shop and inventory system don't talk to each other. Those are the topics on our Services page, and they are the majority of our work.
On the other side, projects with more technical depth: custom AI architecture, agent systems and backend infrastructure. As a client you won't notice much of it. But it's the same standard we apply to an interface between shop and inventory or an AI integration. For law firms we work to the requirements of § 43e BRAO, the German rule on lawyers' service providers, and sign a confidentiality agreement in text form before we see any firm data.

Steven Obst
Full-stack, consulting & project management
Comes from development: first his own online shops, then fintech. At Half Square he runs the first calls, writes the quotes and keeps projects together from kickoff to handover. He designs the architecture himself and builds it with the team.
Christopher Seifert
Full-stack, backend & AI
Computer scientist (B.Sc.) and a developer for years. Here he mostly builds backends and APIs, plus agent systems and business process automation. AI tools are part of his everyday work.
Louis S.
Marketing & sales
Handles marketing and sales outreach. Makes sure the right businesses hear about us, and is often the first contact before a project even starts.

Four steps, every time.

Understand
15 minutes on the phone or over coffee in Berlin. We listen to what you are actually trying to do and tell you whether we are the right people. Both cost nothing.

Design
From the conversation we design the smallest solution that solves your problem. You receive a clear quote by email, with scope, price and delivery date.

Build
Done in a few weeks, built in small steps. Everything tested, with documentation a successor can read. The code and the accounts belong to you. If you ever decide you do not need us anymore, you keep everything and can carry on.

Hand over
On handover day you get a short training session, the finished documentation and four weeks of free support. What happens after that is your call: monthly care from us, or you continue on your own.

Quote first, then the work.
We size the work before the project, not during it. Scope, timeframe and price are in the quote before we start.
If we're not the right fit, we say so.
Some projects are too big, some too small, some need a different specialty. In that case we recommend someone else.

We are based here, we reply in German or English, we come by when needed. You have a Berlin-based point of contact.
AI only where it helps.
We use a language model when a text has to be understood, like a request written in free form. Where a fixed rule does the job, it stays a rule.
